Before making the decision to start a Dog Walking Business there are several things to Consider:
- Are you physically fit enough to actually keep up with our four legged friends, last thing you want to be doing is having to hire someone to do the work for you before you have enough clients.
- Are you organised? Managing time will be critical.
- Do you have a reliable/suitable vehicle to pick up and drop of dogs when your clients are not within walking distance of off leash parks.
- You may need to be open to working some weekends and public holiday’s That maybe when some of your clients need you most.
- You may want to investigate with the local council about local bylaws and whether or not you need a license to walk more that 2-3 dogs at a time. We see some crazy stuff from some councils on the current affir shows regarding dogs and owners
- Have you got the space at home to set up shop, a home office, safe surrounds for any pets that you maybe looking are on a temporary basis.
- Public Liability Insurance. This will be essential to protect you if anything should happen to a dog while in your care or a dog causes damage while you are out in public. Most insurance companies will offer this type of insurance, sometimes discounts will apply if you add it to your car and home insurance policies.
